Nexperia, a specialist in high-throughput production of basic semiconductor devices, has significantly raised the bar for design support for semiconductor engineers by announcing a new generation of interactive data manuals for use with power mosFeTs. By manipulating the interactive slider in the data manual, users can manually adjust the voltage, current, temperature and other conditions of their circuit application and observe how the operating point of the device dynamically responds to these changes.

Chris Boyce, Senior Director of Nexperia's Power MOSFET Business unit, said: "Our new interactive data manual is designed to make life easier for design engineers who want to understand the high-temperature performance of devices and component engineers who want to compare devices under different test conditions."

These interactive data books use Nexperia's advanced electrothermal model to calculate the operating points of devices, effectively providing a graphical user interface for circuit simulators. In addition, these interactive data books allow engineers to view the interactions between gate voltage, drain current, RDS(on), and temperature in real time. The combined effects of these parameters on the device behavior are then dynamically displayed in a table or graph. As a result, Nexperia's interactive data manual can significantly increase productivity by reducing the time engineers need to perform manual calculations or set up and debug circuit simulations.

When design engineers want to select a component for an application, the first thing they think about is consulting a data manual. However, the data book contains a large amount of information, including the minimum, maximum, and typical specifications of dozens of device parameters, and it is often difficult to determine the relationship between these parameters. As a result, engineers must perform time-consuming manual calculations or build circuit simulators using manufacturer-provided models (assuming they are available) to fully understand device behavior. Even so, many manufacturers' simulation models do not show the effect of temperature changes on device behavior. In Nexperia's new interactive data manual, an easy-to-use data manual slider allows engineers to manually change parameters to display real-time interactions between different parameters.

These data books are based on the same technology used in Nexperia's highly successful precision electro-thermal MosFeTs model to fully demonstrate how the behavior of discrete MosFeTs varies with temperature. In addition to the traditional static data manual functions, the new interactive data manual can be run in any standard web browser and does not require additional device simulation software. More than 200 interactive data manuals are available covering Nexperia's latest generation of automotive and industrial power MosFeTs. Nexperia plans to release interactive data manuals for its complete discrete MOSFET portfolio and other devices over time.
