The WM8741 is a very high performance stereo DAC designed specifically for audio applications such as professional recording systems, a /V receivers and high specification CD, DVD and home theater systems. The WM8741 provides a convenient 28-SSOP package and is pin compatible with the WM8740.

The device supports PCM data input lengths from 16 to 32 bits and sampling rates up to 192kHz. WM8741 also supports DSD bitstream data formats, including direct DSD and pcm converted DSD modes. The WM8741 includes high-resolution volume and soft mute controls, digital de-emphasis and a range of advanced digital filter responses, followed by digital interpolation filters, multi-digit sigma delta modulators and stereo DCS.

Wolfson's proprietary architecture optimizes the linearity of the DAC and provides maximum clock jitter insensitivity. Digital filters include several selectable roll and performance characteristics. Users can choose between a standard fast or slow roll response. In addition, WM8741 includes a range of advanced digital filter features, including non-half band filters and minimum phase filters. This flexibility provides a range of benefits such as significantly reduced pre-ringing and minimal group delay.

The internal digital filter can also be bypassed, and WM8741 is used with the external digital filter. The WM8741 supports two audio DAC control connection schemes. The 2/3 line serial control interface provides access to all functions. A range of functions can also be accessed through hardware control interfaces.
